Will Sonos Play work with Bluetooth out of the box?
Yes. You can pair a Bluetooth device as soon as Sonos Play is powered on.
Does Sonos Play support stereo pairing?
Yes, on WiFi. When connected to your home network, you can use the Sonos app to pair two Sonos Play speakers for wider, more detailed sound. Portable speakers cannot be used for surround sound in a Sonos home theatre setup.
Can I group multiple Sonos Plays outside my home WiFi network?
Yes. After initial set up in the Sonos App, you can group up to four Sonos Play speakers from the same household while away from your home network.
Can I stereo pair a Sonos Play and a Sonos Move 2?
No. Stereo pairing requires matching acoustic architecture and sound profiles. Move 2 uses a different sound profile. You can still group the speakers for synchronised playback.
Will Sonos Play pair with a subwoofer?
No. Sonos Play is designed to be portable, and pairing with a subwoofer would cause imbalanced sound or break the connection as the speaker moves.
Can I experience spatial audio or Dolby Atmos with Sonos Play?
No. Sonos Play doesn't support spatial audio. For Dolby Atmos, consider Era 300, Arc Ultra, or Beam (Gen 2).
What's the difference between Bluetooth and WiFi?
A WiFi connection provides the best listening experience, allowing you to stream lossless audio from anywhere in your home. Bluetooth allows you to quickly connect a phone, tablet, or laptop to your speaker and stream audio directly from the paired device—without the Sonos app but within a limited range.
Does Sonos Play come with a power adapter?
No. It includes a charging base and USB-C cable. A power adapter can be purchased separately here.
Can I group speakers while using Bluetooth?
Yes. You can group Sonos Play with other Sonos products even when the audio source is connected via Bluetooth.
Can I connect my turntable or other audio source to Sonos Play?
Yes. Use the Sonos Line-In Adapter with any device that has a 3.5 mm line-out connection. A 3.5 mm auxiliary cable is required (not included).
Can I use a third-party adapter for line-in?
No. Most, if not all, of the USB-C to 3.5 mm adapters on the market today are intended for line-out (headphones) and do not support line in. We recommend using the Sonos Line-In Adapter for a reliable connection.
Can I connect Sonos Play to my TV?
Not recommended. Bluetooth and line-in create latency that leads to lip-sync issues. For TV audio, use a Sonos soundbar, which can still stream and group music with Sonos Play.
What can I do with the USB-C port?
It supports 3.5 mm line-in and Ethernet via the Sonos Line-In Adapter or Combo Adapter. It can also charge small devices such as a smartphone.
How can I use Sonos Voice Control on Bluetooth?
Set up Sonos Voice Control in the Sonos app first. Over Bluetooth, commands are limited to basic playback and volume control rather than full system or content requests.
Can I use the Sonos S1 Controller app with Sonos Play?
